Flagship Study Presentation
Institutions for Regionalism: Enhancing Integration in Asia and the Pacific
1 May 2010 (4:00 pm - 5:30 pm)
Does Asia and the Pacific need to create stronger institutions to support regional economic cooperation? Is regional leadership ready to delegate more power to regional institutions? What type of governance structure should these institutions follow? Should a regional bureaucracy be created with a strong secretariat? Are there lessons Asia and the Pacific could learn from Europe and other regions? What are the benefits for regional economies to participate in regional and global institutions?
The seminar will discuss the institutional architecture for regionalism for Asia and the Pacific in the 21st century and assess whether the status quo is optimal, if existing regional institutions need to be strengthened or streamlined, or whether new institutions need to be created.
Speakers will be asked to provide policy insight in a context of increasing regional and global economic interdependence and to offer their own views on the analysis conducted under the ADB flagship study on "Institutions for Regionalism".
